Flare Jewelry is looking for a Director, Supply Chain and Manufacturing to join the engineering and operations team of our award-winning personal safety technology company. Flare is redefining personal safety based on real data and stories instead of outdated stereotypes. By using technology, we provide people with better personal safety solutions that are discreet, quickly accessible, versatile, and powerful in a variety of unsafe situations.

We’re looking for a hands-on manufacturing and operations leader who can support and optimize the production of our Bluetooth/IoT device as we ramp. This critical role mixes supply chain management, delivery schedule management, SKU management and forecasting, process improvement, and quality assurance. In this leadership role, you will be the voice of the manufacturing team, leading an internal and external manufacturing team to achieve the cost, quality and delivery goals of the business.


You should be able to check at least 5 of these boxes:

  • Have successfully negotiated terms, onboarding, and first article builds with 2 EMS/CM partners. At least one outside North America
  • Have participated in/led a redesign to optimize BOM and supply chain issues
  • Have scaled manufacturing volume by 10-20x
  • Have lowered COGS by 10%
  • Have implemented process or design changes that have improved build times by 20%
  • Have ensured delivery timelines were met in the face of unforeseen challenges
  • Have brought outside consulting expertise in-house (or vice versa)


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a global manufacturing team consisting of product and manufacturing quality engineering, process development and engineering, test development and engineering, commodity and custom part sourcing, EMS/CM sourcing, and product engineering to achieve the cost, quality, and delivery goals of new Flare products
  • Work closely with the Flare engineering team and external EMS/CM/Supplier teams to align the roles and responsibilities between the teams and ensure that the teams are properly integrated to achieve their deliverables
  • Develop and actively manage the product development schedule from program kick-off through manufacturing ramp and ensure that all requirements from internal and external partners are considered
  • Prepare plans for all NPI projects, develop and manage the program budget including NRE, tooling, production line equipment, prototype builds, and qualification and compliance costs
  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure proper SKU inventory management, supply chain management, and capacity is in place to meet the ramp plan and forecast
  • Work with EMS/CM/Supplier/Engineering teams on new product designs, prototyping, and testing
  • Ensure compliance to all ECO procedures and work instructions
  • Act as the point of accountability and the voice of the manufacturing and operations team by communicating the state of the manufacturing program and the program risks and issues to senior management
  • Work cross-functionally to continuously improve the product development process and the integration of Flare development processes with our external EMS/CM partner processes
  • Manage EMS/CM/Supplier partners to ensure required deliveries and delivery timeline is met or exceeded

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering


  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business
  • Experience manufacturing in Central America
  • Experience in DFx - DFma, DFq, DFs, DFc (quality, manufacturing, sourcing, service and cost)
  • Experience with FMEA, DOE, and continual process improvement
  • 3D CAD experience, preferably working knowledge of SolidWork
